One day in a life of a police officer

I study in Police Technology, to become a police officer. Teachers, in three years, teaches us everything we need to know about the job of a police officer and all useful methods of intervention for situations that will happen to us later during our shifts. In our courses, we learn the laws of Canadian Criminal Code, Civil Code, the youth protection act, and many other yet. Thus, we will be ready to intervene in a situation with suspects, victims or witness.

A police officer, in the province of Quebec, is a person who has the duty to enforce laws, arrest offenders, help citizen, maintain order, ensure public safety and investigate crimes.  So, I choose this article below (Criminology careers) because it shows one day in a life of a police officer and reveal how the shifts could be different from one day to another.

At the beginning of the article, we can understand that the shift begins by waking up at the morning or after a nap, depending on which shift we are. First of all, it's time to be ready psychologically for the upcoming shift and to put on our bulletproof vests to begin.

The day begin normally by patrol and the first citizen that is intercepted only receives a warning for a defective headlight.  After that, it's time to go on the police car, and there is a call for a road accident that is heard on police radio that the dispatcher assigned. In this accident, a man was killed. Therefore, when the homicide investigation team arrived on the scene, it's time to announce the death to the family. This part is one part of the job that is thoroughly not funny.

Following this event, it's time for a coffee. Though that the police officer want coffee, he will never have it because he must intervene with teens that cause trouble in the station. After leaving the station, the officer have time to draw up his daily reports, so he goes at one place that he can be seen by citizens, if someone has something to ask, because he want to come in handy. What was bound to happen did happen, a woman comes and tell that she scared, because she thinks that someone does break-in at her home. Arrived at the home, the officer entered with his gun in his hand and search if someone is in the woman's home. Before leaving, the officer secure the scene and take the declaration of the woman about the invaluable effects that were robber.

The shift of the officer are supposed to finish in 15 minutes, but an officer never end shift on time! Most of time, a police officer do overtime.  This time, it's for arresting a man who has driving under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, after this arrest and having fulfill reports, it's finally time to back home. What's nice, is that next day will be totally different!
